AUSTRALIAN CABLES.
(Per Press Association.) Brisbane, May 15. Consequent on the outbreak of pleuropneumonia on the steamer Perthshire the Government of New Zealand advise the Queensland Government that vessels from Queensland with cattle on board will be prohibited from calling at New Zealand. In the two cases brought by Brown and Reid against the Speaker for expulsion from the House in September last, both were nonsuited with costs. An appeal will probably be lodged. Sydney, May 15. After formal business was transacted in the House to-day, Sir H. Parkes gave notice of motion that the continuance of the Ministry in office would retard progressive legislation and seriously prejudice the cause of Australian Federation. Sir G. Dibbs announced he would support the motion. The House adjourned till to-morrow. A Bill to prevent the importation of hides and horns and other portions of the carcase likely to convey cattle diseases from unclean colonies has been passed. This Day. Instructions have been given to the Customs authorisics that the duties lately rcimposed on oils, cocoa, sago, tapioca and rock salt should no longer be collected, and any duty paid will be refunded. The customs officials believed themselves bound to collect the duties on these articles after the delivery of the bridge. The Government is receiving numbers of cetitions against the abolition of duties on native products and industries. Adelaide, May 15. Black and Palmer, the New Zealand pomologists, are visiting the fruit-grow-ing districts of South Australia. They will endeavour to obtain as many samples of dried fruits as possible and exhibit them in New Zealand. This Day. Sir M. O'Rourke is strongly of opinion that the treaty between South Australia and New Zealand will be ratifle'd by the New Zealand Parliament. Melbourne, This Day. The work of the Igcome Tax Assessors is almost completed, and shows the total to be received from the Tax as not likely to exceed £160,000. The Treasurer is disappointed at this result, as his estimate was .£200,000 The frozen meat shipped to London by the Anchor and Aberdeen Shipping Companies will be carried at three farthings per 1b up to September, and thence to the end of May at seven-eighths of a penny.
