The Butter Industry.
IMPORTANT PROPOSALS. I TEH PKEBS ASSOCIATION.! Adelaide. This Day. Tho Minister of Agriculture has received a report from Mr Young, the butter export in London, in which he says a trial of strength between the Continental and Australian butter is inevitable, but it is generally considered the stall-fed cows of the former will be unable m the long run to compete with the grass-fe.l auimals of Australia. He strongly impresses on exporters the necessity of sending the best and a uniform quality of butter properly branded and in regular shipments. He disagrees with the suggestion to establish provincial distributing centres, and explains that all the larger distributing firms have had head-centres in London with branch agencies in the provincial towns, all of which are within a few hours rail of the capital. It is, therefore, practically impossible to glut the London market, unless every town in the country is in a similar condition, but it is easy to glut the provincial markets, which are thus placed at a disadvantage.
