Australian Banks.
[Per Press Association] Sydney. May 1. At the half-yearly meeting of the Bank of New South Wales, the profit was shown to be» i-81,700. The Directors recommend the payment of a dividend of 9 per cent, and that the sum of .£22,000 be carried forward. During the half year the paid up capital increased by £'50,000 and the reserve fund by £14,000. Adelaide, This Day. At the annual meeting of the Bank of Adelaide a dividend was declared of 7 per cent. The chairman said there were indications of a decided improvement in the colony's prospects in the near future. All the chief products promised a good recovery in prices. . Melbourne, This Day. At a meeting of the National Bank of ' Australasia the chairman said it was mortifying that with such a large paid up capital they were unable to pay a dividend on ordinary shares, but there wore indications of improvement in trade which ho Hoped in the near future would enable them to rcsuuao dividends.
