The social in connection with the ,; Hope of Feildiug 1.0. G.T. Lodge, ' held in the Foresters' Hall last evening, proved mure successful than was anticipated by the promoters, the Hall being crowded. The stage was prettily decorated and nicely arranged, leuding a pleasing effect to the, glees givoa by a troupe of youiig girls. These were the special feature of the.' entertainment, and Misj Valentii • muse have gone to considerable troub.e ■ in training them to such a , state of perfection. The production of the glees "Fairy Glen," "Three little pigs," " The tavern in the town," and " Three cheers for the red, white, and blue," was very creditable to those taking part, namely, Miss/Valentine, E. Mackenzie, Ethel Mackenzie, Crisssy Bloomfield, . Mary Blooofield, and Maggie Simpson, the two former taking the 'solo parts. ' Messrs F. Bray and Hoppy assisted in "The tavern in the town."; The item which was best received i>y the ; audience was the comic, song; .in character, " Dear old grandfather,'' . by a little girl, Miss Lavinia Mackenzie, who was deservedly ' recalled. Miss M. Heald sung "Despised for being poor." Mr D. Hoppy sang " Waiting to hear the verdict " ( re. peating the last verse in response to an encore) and the " Sailor boy." Miss Mackenzie sang « He isn't a marrying man." Miss Valentine scored a success in the song " My sweetheart [ is the man in the moon," beingencored. Mr F. Bray sang " Midshipmite " andf i " The little Hero." Mr Sherlock re- r ' cited one of J. B. Gough's temperance ■ orations and although he displayed a , good memory his delivery : was too rapid. Mr (Staffoh gave a couple of i violin solos. The accompaniments , w ere played by Mrs Gaflick and. Miss Valentine. During the interval re- 5 ; freshments were handed round.
