The Cook Strait Cable.

The three core cable across Cook Strait broke some time during last night, and all the work between Wellington and Christchurch is therefore thrown on a single wire cable. To facilitate work ana prevent a block a new Wheatstone automatic machine has been called into requisition between Christchurch and Wellington, and the telegraph officials report that it is working very smoothly. The cable repairing steamer Terranora was working off Oterangi Bay to-day, but at latest accounts she bad not started to lay down the new cable.
