Sporting News. THE OTAKI KACING CLUB.

Mr H. F. l r agar, the popular secretary ot the Otaki Maori Haeing Club, | states the Committee are carrying : one a number of improvements to ■ their course, which will greatly add ' to the convenience of horseowners, ' and the general public. A new lease ] of the racecourse for fourteen years, with the right of renewal lor another ' seven, has been secured. The Com- ' mittee have decided to form a now ' course, which will be considerably wider than the old one, and will ' have a top dressing ot 6 inches. A fence will also be erected round the new cours?. The saddling paddock, lawn and stewards' stand will be enlarged, and other improvement of a serviceable nature effected With the exception of the new course, the improvements will be in readiness for the May meeting, which is ex- ; pected co be a " record " in point of \ acceptances and attendance of the i public. Ihe Committee have decided ' \o abandon their January meeting, and have selected the 9th November instead for a spring- mcetin r, in addition to the May meeting. The new c urse will be used for the first time on tho 9th November dqxl We are pleosed to learn that the Club is in a very prosperous condition, having over £400 to its credit at the Bank. Nominations for the meeting 1 on the 24th May will close on Tuesday, the 30th instant. At the Wairarnpa races on Tuesday, the well known light weight, F. Kingan, had his leg splintered below the knee through his mount, Legis hitor, colliding with a post. It will be some time before Kingan will be ablo to get into the saddle a<;ain.
