Native Squabbles in the Uriwera Country.
THE SURVEYORS ASSAULTED. (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION). Auckland, This Day. Anather survey embroglio baa occurred in the Uriwera Country. Inspector Hickson last night received instructions to proceed at once with an armed force of police and permanent artillery to Whakatare, Bay of Plenty, in consequence of a disturbance near Ruatoki. The Uriwera natives, in large force, obstructed the survey party, took away their instruments, and assaulted the surveyors. Inspector Hickson leaves this afternoon per steam with a force of about forty police and artillery under Lieut. Hume. The men are under orders to prepare for an indefinite stay in the Uriwera Country. The Premier has instructed Inspector Hickson to make the best show possible of the Government force.
