Per Press Association.) Thames, April 17. A miner named James Cowell was taking down a charge in the Hauraki mine, when the pellet exploded. The middle finger of the right hand had to be amputated, and it is feared Cowell will lose his sight. Dunedin. April 17. David Denntsan, attempted to jump on an engine beforo it had come to a standstill, but slipped and fell under the wheel. His leg will have to be amputated. Auckland, April 17. John Stewart, of Paeroa, stumbled over a plough ih the dark, He died in 1 half an hour of syncope and loss of blood and shock to the system. j Wellinoton, April 17. George Waddington, hotel-keeper, of Ngahauranga, who was thrown from his horse on the ith inst, died at the hospital, lockjaw having set in. 1
