(Per Press Association). Calcutta, April 15, A detachment of Sepoys, in an at-

tempt to cross Pamjkoro river to reconnoitre, were compelled to retire, one British officer being killed and two wounded. The casualties among the Scpoj-a numbered 17. The latter were separated from the main body, owing to the enemy destroying a pontoon bridge by means of floating down the river enormous logs. The British forces, while retreating, inflicted heavy loss on the enemy. A friendly Khan has sent 2,000 men to relieve Mr Eobertson at Ghitral. Col. Batty e was killed just as the detachment regained camp. Khan of L>ir has captured tho fort of Dir, and taken Umra Khan's brother Mahomed prisoner. He intends to give up both to the English. The Paujathora has been rebridged.
