Concert at Colyton.
A concert was held in the Colyton Hall last evening in aid ot the funds of St. John's Church organ fund. The attendance was very good and the several performers acquitted thenise yes creditably, a most enjo} rable cmcert being the result. A lengthy programme was through, the first p irt corsisted of a pianoforte overture by Mrs C Millen ; sonjr, "He Wipes the Tear '* by Mr 3 Howie, who gave as an encore " She Wore a Wreath of Roses " ; Mr Mitchell wa3 encored tor the son«- --" Anchored," and he pave " The Song- That Reached My Heart " in response ; Master Peddie was encored for dancing the " Highland Fling." " Hreathe Soft ye Winds" was given as a trio by Miss Pleasants, Messrs Mitchell and Tong ; Miss Shortall sang " When Sparrows Build," giving as an encore " Gfrandma's Advice " ; Mrs West sanyr " The Eastern Window," repeating a verse as an encore ; the humorous song " I've Just Come Away from the Inquest" was given by Mr O. Pleasants, and was enctr;d ; a strong* choir under the conductorship of Mr Fraser, sar«g the glees " March of the Men of Harlech," " May Uay " and " ihe Clouds That Wrap the Setting' Bun." The second part was opened with a pianoforte overture by Miss V. Pleasants ; Mrs Howie gave the song " Blue Alsatian Mountains" and Mrs West «• The Old Cathedral." Although it was requested, at the commencement of the second part, that no encores should be asked for, Mr long was encored for his rendition of " Daisy Belle," repeating a verse in response, and Mr O. Pleasants wus recalled for the humorous song ' I'll give him Tarra-boom-de-ay " j Master Peddie was encored for a " Sword Dance " ; the choir gave the glees " Let the Hills Resound," " The Hardy Norseman," and " Peacefully Slumber My Own Darling Son," the former being particularly well rendered ; " Sweet and Low " was given as a quartette by Mrs West, Miss shortall, Messrs O. C. Pleasants and Tong. The accompaniments were played on the piano by Mrs Millen and Miss Y. Pleasants, and Miss Fraser accompanied the glees on the harmonium. Mr 0, Pleasants acted as chairman. At the conclusion of the concert a dance was held, a larga number attending' and dancing was kept up till a late hour this morning. Music was supplied by a strong orchestra consisting of — piano, Miss V. Pleasants ; violins, Messrs O. C. Pleatanta and Mitchell ; bass viol, Mr R. Shortall ; clarionette, Mr J. B, Pringle. Mr G. Worsfold acted as IC.
