o (Per Press Association.) Auckland, April 7. The Ncwiown shopkeepers opened this afternoon on the strength of Mr Holland's proclamation. Bauds of music perambulated the streets, playing appropriate music at the recovery of the lo.it Saturday afternoon trade. The streets of Newton were crowded last night with thousands of sightseers to witness the demonstration on the opening of the shops again on Saturday evening. The members of the Early Closing Association distributed copies at the doors of tLc open shops of the Hon. W. P. Reeycs' telegram that the shopkeepers were acting contrary to law.
