Feilding Borough Council.
The ordinary monthly oeeting of the above was held last evening. Present — His Worship the Mayor (Mr W. A. Sandilands), Crs E. Goodbehere, H. Worsfold, W. A. L. Bailey, G. Saywell, G. W. Fowles, J. Gould, A. E. Allan. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows : — From G. C. Hills, reporting that he and Mr C. Bray, senr., had recensly inspected the Kiwitea stream at the site of the proposed bridge with a view to ascertaining if the course of the stream had altered since the plans 1 for the bridge had been prepared in July last. They reported a decided improvement had taken place in the channel where it rounds the point immediately above the site of the proposed bridge. They considered a farther improvement would probably be effected if a narrow channel were cut through the sand bank from Mr Pharazyn's flood gate for a distance of 20 yards, and recommended this be done. From 0. L. McLean, asking the Council to have the watertables on the Makino road opposite his property attended to before the winter sets in to prevent damage being done by stormwater— Will be done before winter. From Cr T. K. Chamberlain asking for leave of absence from this meeting. — Granted. From Mr E. A. Barton, manager of the Bank of Australasia, re overdraft. : From C. Bray, applying on behalf of Mr Nicholas, for permission to erect 1 scaffolding in fioat of the proposed new buildings in Fergusson street.—* ; Granted, 1 From H. Cornfoot, manager Mana* 1 watu Timber Company, submitting 1 plans of cottages they proposed erect- ' ing in Beattie street. — Approved, From Colonial Secretary, re Ooun- > cil's application for the appointment I of Mr i'lavall as Inspector of Weight* and Measures and stating that as there was railway communication between ■ Feilding and Palmerston North they ' could not incur the additional expense of an additional inspector, but that the . inspector in Palmereton would be m- \ structed to visit Feilding. Also, that • the application for an appointment . under the Dairy Industry Act, had ■ been referred to the Department of - Agriculture. Wickham, asking for payment of wages for holidays since the . commencement of the year, i The Finance Committee's report, i recommending accounts amounting [ to £82 133 4d be passed for payment was adopted. \ The Public Works Committee re- [ ported the following works had been completed : — Approach to Saxon's and i Heald's properties ; western approach 1 to Warwick street bridge, and tem- [ porary repairs to same ; trimming and [ metalling Stafford street ; metalling , about three chains of West street ; . Fergusson street trimmed, and part of l main ditch, Eimbolton road, cleaned . out ; water tables have been made and ' trimmed in Bowen street, and in ' Queen street the metalled portion has [ been trimmed and the ditches cleaned j out. The committee had instructed t the foreman of works to begin and I metal all streets that require attenl tion. They suggested that the foot- ' path between Hastie's hotel and the corner of Warwick street be dressed L with metal ; that two piles were re- [ quired to strengthen the temporary bridge across the Kiwitea stream; L that the application of T. Hostick and ■ others, for culvert, be acceded to if '- satisfactory arrangements can be made I with Mr Turner's representative to open out ditch on his land, into which [ the water from culvert is discharged, s — Adopted. > Proposed by Cr Fowles, seconded by Cr Gould, That the Mayor and Or 1 Goodbehere be a committee to arrange 1 with the bank re overdraft, and that | a cheque be drawn for the amount of the present overdraft — viz., £447 15s Bd. That the Finance Committee, consisting of the Mayor, Crs Goodbehere and Saywell, be hereby authorised to sign cheques during the ensuing year. — Carried. Resolved, That the name of John Bishop be substituted on burgess roll for that of G. B. Bradford for section 187, suburban. Proposed by Cr Bailey, seconded by Cr SaywelJ, That the permanent men employed by the Borough be paid for holidays during the year — viz., Janu* ary Ist, Good Friday, Easter Monday, May 24th, December 25th and 26th. — Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Goodbehere, That the assistantranker be informed of Messrs Wilson and Co.'s complaint against him, and that he be requested to answer such complaint in writing before the next ordinary meeting of the Council. — Carried. Resolved, That the Council point out the necessity of there being an appointment of Inspector of Weights and Measures for Feilding, and that such appointment should be outside the Police Department. Proposed by Cr Goodbehere, seconded by Cr Worsfold, That the matters complained of in the Inspector of Nuisances' report be left in the hands of the Mayor to deal with.— Carried. - Proposed by Cr Worsfcld, seconded by Cr Fowles, That Mr Flavall be appointed inspector under the carriers*.
bye-laws of the Borough of Feilding ; that he receive one-half the fines upon conviction. — Carried. Thft following tenders were received : — For maintenance metal for ensuing year — E. Charles, Is 6d per cubic yard, and 11s for one-horse and 16s for two-horse teams per day ; J. Belfit, Is 8d per yard for metal, and 11s for one-horse and 16s for two-horse ; F. Rink, metal Is 7d per yard, and teams as per specifications. Resolved, That the tender of E. Charles be accepted. j This was all the business, and the Council adjourned.
