Gorton and Son's stock report: We held stock sales this week at Marton, Mr Paine's, Cheltenham, and Feilding on Friday. We had an unusual rush of stock at Marton, many not advertised, but, thanks to Mr R. E. Beckett who lent us his yards, we got over the want of room. We sold considerably over 2000 sheep, but had to turn out unsold most of the cattle and a few pens of sheep. At Mr Paine's sale dairy stock sock sold well. From 45 to 50 cows were sold singly under the hammer, and some young stock. At Feilding our entries I were very large, occupying our own yards fully, and many pens in Mr Carr's yards (kindly lent us). We yarded over 500 head of cattle and about 7000 sheep, i The bidding for sheep was decidedly better, a good deal of trade being done under the hammer — for cattle very dull, but the weather was very wet during the sale, which much effected the attendance, many going away. Very little business was done in cattle. We sold close on 6000 sheep.
