Poverty Bay Grass Seed.

The subjoined letter appeared in yesterday morning's Palmerston Standard : — Sir, — Re Poverty Bay grass seed. Our attention has been directed to certain correspondence under this head which appeared in your columns of 18th and 19th mst. As we are large exporters of Poverty Bay ryegrass seed, and are responsible for a considerable quantity being sent to your district each year, we beg that you will allow us to endorse the letter of Messrs Barraud and Abraham, aud to assure your readers that the seed spoken of as <( Genuine Poverty Bay Ryegrass " procurable at from 4s lOd to 5s can* not pissibly have come from here. Our prices for seed during the season have ranged for the most part from os 3d to 5s Qd f.o.b. for good samples, while tor some very heavy clean seed os much as fjs 9d was made. Your farmers will easi'y see that after adding* freight, transhipping charges, rai'age, and commission, it would be impossible to sail the sejd at the figures above quoted. It is unlikely that any stray line of seed could have reached your district at a low figure (unless it be old seed held over from last year) as tbis season's crop, though of excellent quality was far short of previous yields, and the demand bas been so constant throughout the season, that there is very little seed now lett here. Injustice to your merchants who supply a genuine article we trust you will publish what we have to say. — We are, &c, Wilwams <fe Settle. Gisborne. March 22nd, 1895.
