THE END OF THE CLOSE SEASON.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR. Sir, —l have four questions to ask those wbo are responsible to the sportsmen in and around Feilding who take out game licenses, for those Who do not and yet seem to enjoy the same privileges as those wbo do. Have we a Hanger at all now ? If so, where is he, and what aie his duties as ranger ? Where is our local Com. mittee of tbe Acclimitisation Societj ? What active step is the Committee, or the Society in general, taking for the protection of game during the last few weeks in the close season ; although it would really appear sarcastic to call it by such au inappropriate name. Considering the amount of the game license we pay surely we are entitled to a little protection in the case of trespassers in pursuit of game, or at least supervision of poachers from the Acclimatisation Society. But tbis way, where game abounds, we get neither. I think, therefore, it is only fair to warn those gentlemen who baye already visited us this year for the purpose of shooting, stealing, taking, and carrying away our game, that we shall take the matter into our own hands and make an example of the next poacher found on our laud. With apologies to the " legal element" in Feilding should I be iv error, I submit it is not only an offence against the lews of the Acclimatisation Society, but is otherwise illegal and constitutes trespass with damage. I am, etc., Awahuri Sporstman.
