The Midland Railway.
Consequent upon the retirement of Mr H. D. Bell from the Midland Railway case, Mr George Hutchison will act as senior counsel, and the services of Mr Theophilus Cooper, of Auckland, have been secured as junior. By the terms of the arbitration agreement it will be necessary for Sir Bruce Burnside aud Sir Charles Lilley to appoint an umpire to decide the questions upon which the arbitrators may not be in accord, and there is some interest and speculation in legal circles as to who may fill this arduous and responsible position. It is thought that if the services of a specially qualified man cannot be secured outside official circles, a judge of the Supreme Court will be asked to act in order that the parties may be relieved from a difficulty. — Times.
