THE ENGLISHMEN DEFEATED ; BY SEVEN WICKETS. (Per Press Association). Melbourne, March 25. The match England v. Victoria was resumed to-day and resulted in an easy win for the Victorians with seven wickets to spare. In the second innings the English' men were all disposed of for 270, the additional high scores being Briggs 33, Ford 85, Richardson 15, Gay (not out) 24. The bowling and fielding of the Victorians was of a brilliant description. The 132 runs required to win, were knocked up by the Victorians in a very short time with the loss of only three wickets. Bruce carried his bat through for 72, made in great style, and Albert Trott ran up 44. The partnership between these two saw the score raised from 36 to 11 6, the century being hoisted as the result of seventy-two minutes play. A return married v. single cricket match will be played on the Feilding ground to-morrow afternoon, play commencing at 1.30 sharp. This match is likely to prove most interesting, and the benedicts are determined to retrieve their lost honors The following are requested to play if possible, but the match will not be confined to eleven a-side: — Married- Carr, Millan, Fowles, Say well, Levett, Bray, Knowles, Hill, Reade, Eade, Innes Jones, Sherwill, FitzHerbert. Single— Parr, Richards, W., P , and H. Giesen, Chamberlain, Halcombe, Hedge, Roe, Treseder, Scandrett, Moore, and Grant.
