♦ (Per Press Association.) Christchurch, March 25. It has been found necessary to replace three of the plates of the Tainni which ran into the wharf lost week. It is expected the work will bo finished to-mor-row. The City Council has had its second stratum artesian wells tested. Results show that the supply is diminishing. The polo match, Auckland v. At a meeting of ratepayers convened by the Mayor, a resolution was passed that it is highly desirable that abbatoirs be erected by the City Council A poll of ratepayers has now to be taken, The police have arrested a young man named Docherly, who has been wanted for the last six weeks on a charge of embezzling money of the Milk Supply Company. In bankruptcy to-day Mr Justice Williams declined to make an order in the case of Samuel Simmons, a country bankrupt, stating that in justice to the trading community, and in mercy to himself, the applicant should not be in a position to carry on trade. The discharge of John Loughlin, horse trainer, was suspended for twelve months. Wellington, March 25. The Bnahine from London, via the usual way ports, arrived late this afternoon.
