Meeting of Creditors
The meeting of creditors of Rowland Keats Bradbury was held yesterday at the Marton Court House, the creditors present being : — Messrs Purkiss, Pybus, Bell, Gill and Mrs Palensky. Mr J. Notniau, D.O. A., presided, and Mr Cohen appeared for the debtor. The debtor was examined by the D.O. A. at length, and deposed on oath as follows : — Was clerk to Mr A. Bell when he was expecting money. Money came out to him in three different times ; £250 in 1888, £1800 in 1889, and i; 200 in 1890. Notwithstanding these amounts he was never clear of liabilities, ho having anticipated the legacies. He never paid off all his liabilities. He did not know how he stood when the .£IBOO came out. It was understood' at the time of receiving the i'lßoo there was a balance to follow. Was doing nothing at the time. The whole £500 debts represented goods supplied for self and family and did not include farming or such like business debts. Had a family of 10 children, and resided at Halcombe, the house being owned by his wife. The house became his wife's property in 1891, being released from mortgage to Mr A. H. Tompkins by his (debtor's) mother, who sent out a special sura to free the house, on condit;on it was transferred to debtor's wife, His mother sent out £160, which sufficed to pay off the mortgage and couvey the property to his wife. His expenses increased after 1887, as he fully expected to receive £5000 the 12th part of a property for which £60,000 had been refused and which had been valued at £120,000. The D.O.A. pointed out that the redeeming feature in the debtor's case was that he kept his creditbrs well posted up as to his position. If he had not done so he would probabiy have had to do so before the judge. If was an extraordinary bankruptcy and he did not think the extravagance of the debtor was jusfied although he had had expectatipns. The examination then closed. — Mercury.
