THE DAIRY INDUSTRY.

In our last issue we gave a detailed report of the address given by Mr McEwen, the Canadian Dairy Expert, at Cheltenham. There can be no doubt that his audience wera then satisfied Mr McEwen was a master of his profession. As an outcome of his success at Hunterville, Cheltenham, and other places, we are glad to be able to state that the settlers at Colyton and Apiti are likely to ba similarly favored in about two months' time. It is his intention to make an inspection of the whole of the factories on this coast as far as Taranaki before the end of this season in order that he may see the manner of working 1 them and the character of the output, as it is only by bo doing that he can be enabled to suggest alterations or improvements where they may be necessary. Should this second visit to this part of the colony be made he will give addresses on the production and care of milk when we would urge on every person who is interested either directly or indirectly in the dairy industry to make a point of being present at these lectures. Mr McEwen not only possesses an abundance of information on the subject, but he has the gift of imparting his knowledge to his hearers in plain and simple language easily understood by even, the most inexperienced dairyman. His advice is therefore easy to follow in the direction of making changes whiph must lead to an increase in the profits of dairy farming as well as a reduction in the expenses of working. Mr McEwen admits that this colony possesses natural advantages unsurpassed in the d world, but our dairy farmers are altogether behind the times. However, it is a pleasure to knov that they are taking the fullest advantage given them of acquiring knowledge by such meu as Mr McEwen.
