Selectors' Rents in Arrears.
(Per Press Association.^ Melbourne, March 21. A deputation of northern selectors asked Mr Best that the time for payment of back rents be extended from 20 to 40 years, and a reduction made from Is to 6d an acre. Mr Best, in reply, advocated leaving the matter in the hands of the Government, as they intended to deal with each case on its individual merits. Sydnkt. This Day. In the Assembly Mr Sullivan moved an adjournment to call attention to tbe urgent necessity for granting assistance to selectors. It was impossible for them to pay the present rents, rates, and interests, and many were in great distress. Mr Carruthers said that were real necessity could be shown assistance was being and would be given. He had already dealt with a number of cases, and not a single application for relief had been refused. The Land Bill met the case of the distressed selectors.
