AUSTRALIAN ELEVEN FOR ENGLAND. PROTECTION IN VICTORIA. (Per Press Association). Sydney, Thig Day. In the Assembly the Land and Income Tax Bill passed the third reading by 45 to 24. Brisbane, This Day. The estimated yield of wheat for the past season is 20-46 bushels per acre, the highest average, with one exception, on record. Melbourne, March 20. The death sentences for offences on little girls have been comuted in the case of Ewen to ten, and that of Robertson to fifteen years penal servitude, with two Hoggings of fifteen lashes each. This Day. It is now taken for granted that an Australian cricket eleven will visit England at the end of next summer. The new men likely to be included are — Eady (of Tasmania), A. E. Trott (Goulbourne), Iredale (Sydney), Darling and Hill (Adelaide). At a meeting of the Parliamentary country party it was decided to protest against the action of the Government in bringing pressure to bear on selectors to enforce payment of overdue rents. A draft report of the Tariff Board will be presented in a few days. It declares faith in tho protective duties of the col« ony and disclaims any intention to interfere with the system of Protection. The Board, however, considers the farmers are heavily burdened by having to pay excessive prices for implements and urges a reduction of the duties on them of 15 to 20 per cent.
