Tariff Commission.
(PBS PKKSS ASSOCIATION.) Christchurch, March 18. The Tariff Commission opened its sittings at Christchurch to-day. Lengthy enidence was taken on the establishment of a local industry, the name and nature of which was not disclosed. A. Andrews, bookbinder and manufacturing stationer, advocated the free admission of leather used in book-binding and the imposition of a substantial duty on manufactured stationery. E. F. Donbrain presented a petition signed by a number of fanners and station holders imposing any duty on imported sheep-dips.
