♦ (Per Press Association.) Gisborne, March 17. Another deliberate attempt at fireraising occurred this morning. Porter's Hall, occupied by Wiiliams and Kettle as a grain store, was found on fire about 7 o'clock, but the flames were extinguished before much damage was done. An examination of the premises showed that two fires had been started under the floor 9 feet apart. Wellington, March 18. A priyate cable message announces the death at Brisbane of Harry Marshall, a young comedian well-known in the colony. He was a native of Wellington and a son of Mr R. A. Marshall, caretaker of the Theatre Royal here. In the action brought by Mr James Wood, late manager of the Wellington Woollen Company, claiming L7OO damages from the company for alleged wrongful dismissal, the jury found for the plaintiff for LlOO, in addition to the L135 paid into Court by the company. This Day. Roderick MacKenzie, who escaped from Poiafc Hallswell, was esafcenced to six months' imprisonment. Thelpolice are satisfied they hav§ secured some of the burglars in their recent haul of vagrants, though the evidence is insufficient to prosecute on the major charge. Auckland, March 18. The blood stock purchased by Major George in Australia arrived by the Tasmania. The Auckland Charitable Aid Board has struck a rate of 4-25th of a penny in the £, calculated to yield with the subsidy L13.225, being L62D over last year, George Watson Primrose, bankrupt, has been sentenced to six hours' imprisonment for having failed to keep proper books in the three years prior to the date of his bankruptcy.
