The Late Governor Duff. ' .
(Per Press Association). Wellington, March 17. The Mayor has forwarded a letter of condolence to Lady Duff. Mr H. D. Bell, M.H.R., Grand Master of the New Zealand Masons, has sent a cable to the Grand Secretary of New South Wales, asking him to convey expressions of regret and condolence. A salute of nineteen guns was fired by the Permanent Artillery from the saluting battery this afternoon at the hour fixed for the funeral. London, March 16. ■> The Marquis of Ripon, Secretary of State for the Colonies, and Sir Saul Samuel, Agent-General for New South Wales, have cabled condolences to Sir Robert Duff's family. General and deep regret was expressed in the lobbies of Parliament when the news was received of the death of Sir Robert Duff. Sir Edward Gray is mentioned as a probable successor to the late Sir Robert Duff, but it is generally regarded as improbable that the office will be conferred on him.
