Mr McLellan in Reply to the Premier.

_» __ (PXm PBBBB ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, March 15. Mr James McLellan, President of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, who is at present in Auckland, makes the following statement in reference to certain remarks made by the Premier in his speech at Wanganui on .Thursday night:— " l -deny that the Wellington Chamber of Commerce has descended to the level of a political machine, the rules of the Chamber precluding its doing so ; but I hold that when politics play so much havoc with business and the commercial interests of the colony as they have done of late, it is right that attention should .be drawn to it. Had the rules of the Chamber permitted, a much stronger case could easily have been made out than the one which has called forth such remarks from the Premier, who seems to feel the truth very keenly. Further, I deny that I am a member of any secret committee for the purpose of soliciting subscriptions for paying a speaker's expenses to stump the country in opposition to the present Government, and to " tear them up into rags." As Mr Seddon's information is, therefore, incorrect, I claim a public apology." _________
