Manawatu County Council.

0 The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Council was held on Wednesday, when there were present — Crs. Ranson (cbair), Hammond, Taylor, Robinson and Masters. The following correspondence was read and dealt with : — From Rangitikei County Council, Engineer's report on the Rangitikei bridge at Bulls. From several settlers, requesting tbat the formation of the Main Drain road be continued from Mr Lucas' section for a distance of 40 chains. From the Treasury, re loan of L 173 for the construction of a line connecting McDonell's line and Sandon and Bulls Main road. From Secretary to Treasury, stating that the Colonial Treasurer must be satisfied that the Act has been complied with before granting a loan for L 250 for the Oroua protective works. From the Treasury, intimating that the application of the Council for a loan of LISOO for additions to the Awahuri bridge was provisionally granted on condition that the necessary steps be taken by the Council. From the Treasury, re irregularity in advertising special order for Oroua protective works. From P. Desmond, requesting transfer of section on rate roll from H. S. Turner to Mr Pickering. From the Commercial Assurance Company, with a cheque for amount of assurance on the Chambers recently burned. From Cr. Wilson, with letter from settlers interested guaranteeing to indemnify Council in case of loss which might be incurred through Oroua protective works. From the Overseer, estimate of cost of road from Mount Stewart to Feilding road. The estimated total cost was L 643 Bs. Proposed by Cr. Masters, seconded by Cr. Hammond, " That the name of H. V. Pickering be placed on the rate roll for part section 149, Kawa Kawa native reserve in place of J. R. Turner."—Carried. Proposed by Cr. Taylor, seconded by Cr. Robinson, -' That Mr Bray be re- J quested to meet Mr Mackay (engineer to Rangitikei County) to inspect the Rangitikei bridge and report."— -Carried. Proposed by Cr. Ranson, seconded by j Cr. Hammond, " That tenders be called for the new County offices, tenders to ] be accepted on the 29th by the commit- ! tee appointed to pass accounts."— Car- ] ried. The Engineer's report was read and dealt with. It was decided that the Clerk be instructed to summon defaulting ratepayers without further delay. The monthly account sheet being passed, the Coancil adjourned.
