Palmerston District Hospital Board.
*^ The usual monthly meeting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board wa« held yesterday. Present — Messrs Raven, hill (chairman), Kendall, Park, Saxon, Lethbridge, Taylor, and Ransome. The Matron reported as follows :— Patients in hospital on February Ist, 21 ; admitted daring the month, 14; discharged—cared, 11 ; relieved, 4 ;' died, 1 ; patients in hospital on March Ist, 19. The Chairman said he had consulted with the medical staff about the proKsed grading of the hospital staff, and th doctor* agreed that such a course was necessary. He moved that the staff of nurses be graded into Nog 1, 2, 3, and 4, the present taking grade according to their seniority in the Board's service. Seconded by Mr Ransome and carried. . The Secretary was instructed to inform the doctors that they are expected to attend tbe hospital once each day during their alternate weeks ; and it was also resolved to institute another system of checking their visits. Tbe Chairman reported that nurse Carr given notice of her intention to resign. appointment of a nurse to fill tbe Tftcancy was left in the hands of the executive to deal with. Mr Taj lor said he objected to the matron being regularly consulted as to who should be appointed to vacancies. It appeared to him that ebe was allowed to choose her own friends whenever a vacancy occurred. He wished it to be understood that he had no com - plaint to make against the matron. The chairman and Mr Park, on behalf of the executive, raid no appointment would be made unless they were satisfied the appointee was possessed of first-class references, and was in every way suited to the position Mr Raosome reported that he had made enquiries concerning an old man named Ampblett, residing at Awahori, and he had consented to hand over his little property as some return for his support. Tbe Chairman was instructed to take the necessary steps to secure tbe transfer. Mr Park moved that a rate of 5s per £1000 be struck, and that £360 be allocated for charitable aid purposes. He thought no objection should be made to the levy of ss, seeing that it was a reduction of lOd on last year's rate The motion was seconded by Mr Kendall and carried without dissent, The Board then adjourned.
