Mcllwraith is making good progress towards recovery. Tbe Waterloo Cup will be run on Friday. Lord Onslow has been elected an Alderman of London. If Mr Campbell-Bannerman does not accept the Speakership, it is commonly thought probable that the Right Hon. Sir Matthew Ridley will be elected. The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 3,560,000 quarters, and for the Continent 880,000 quarters. The American visible wheat supply is estimated at 96,850,000 bushels. General Booth has selected Canada for his over-sea colony. Lord Roseberj's health shows a slight improvement, and the Prime Minister was able to attend a Cabinet meeting at his private residence today. Sir J- T. Hibbert, M.P., Financial Secretary to the Treasury, has informed the Associated Chambers of Coramerce that the surplus of the national revenue this year is likely to exceed half a million Mr Gardner, President of the Board of Agriculture, replying to a question in the House of Commons, said the Government was considering whether farmers could be permitted to seDd butter direct to consumers by parcel post. It was desired to encourage some branches of the farming industry.
