Reduction of Rent.

(Per Press Association). Melbourne, This Day. A deputation of selectors waited on Mr R. W. Best, Minister of Lands, and asked for a reduction of rent from Is to 6d per afcre. They denied the agitation for a reduction in rent emanated from mortgages. The Minister, in replying, said it was scandalous that 'the arrears should be allowed to accumulate during tbe years farmers wore receiving good returns for their produce. It was necessary the rent should be paid, but Gov. ernment would deal with the pases on their merits and there was no intention to evict any unfortunate selectors who were unable to pay. .
