Manchester Rifles.

A meeting of the Shooting Committee of the above was held at the Denbigh Hotel on Friday evening. Present — Lieut. Bray (in the chair), Lieut. Halcombe, Sergts. Aitken and Petherick, \ Vol. Scott, and the secretary. • The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Secretary reported that the Finance Committee had agreed to hand over to the Shooting Committee the £5 won at the volley firing. It was decided 1 that the amount be divided into four prizes, as follows : — One medal each at £2' 2s and £1 Is for Martini's, and 25s and 15s for Sniders. The competitions to be handicaps ; Lieut. Bray and Vol. Scott were appointed handicappers, with power to alter the handicaps after each competition ; the handicaps to be made i and handed over to the secretary and read out at the range after each competition. It was decided that no competitor with a handicap, plus his score, can exceed 84 at 500, 600, and 700 yards, and 88 at 300, 500, and 600 yards, for Martini's, and 70 for Sniders at any three ranges. Resolved, That there be five competitions, four to count, and unless five competitors with each arm take part in every competition it shall not conni. The first competition to take place on March 27tlt, commencing at 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. sharp. Entries to close with the secretary at noon on Saturday, March 23rd. A vote of thanks having been passed to the Finance Committee and to the chair the meeting adjourned.

The Manchester Rifles will be present at the ceremony of laying the founda- \ tion stone of the Wanganui Hospital on Thursday next.
