Kiwitea Bridge Award.
; The Governor has given his award as to the proportion each local body interested shall contribute to the cost of the erection of a bridge over the Kiwitea ' Stream, on the Kirubolton Road, near ; Feilding. The award directs that th 9 ! Fei'dlng Borough Council shall pay 8-lGths of the cost, the Manchester Road Board 4-16ths, the Kiwitea County Coun- [ cil 3-16ths, and the Pohangina Council 1 16 th. At the inquiry opened at Feildi ing on 28th November last, before Mr W. < S. Short, Commissioner, .the Feilding Borough Council, demanded that they should contribute 5 12th*, equal to .£894 1 Ts 2d of the cost, the Manchester Bond Board o- 12th?, equal to £536 11s 3d, \ Kiwitea County Council 3 12ths, equal to ' i! 536 12s 3d, and the Pohangina County Council l-Tith, equal to £178 17s sd, making a total of £2,146 9^, the esti- • mated costs of the bridge. According to 1 the award the Feilding Borough Council I will pay £1,073 4s 6d of the cost, the > Manchester Road Board, £'536 12s 3d the I Kiwitea County Council £402 9s 2Jd and the Pohangina County succeeded best at • the inquiry and obtained the substantial reduction of A 134 3s o:]d on the demand t and obtained a reduction of £44 14s 4£d. [ These reductions have been obtained by , putting a larger share on the Borough as the contribution of the Manchester Road Board remains on the same sum as first proposed and agreed to by that body. — Advocate.
