SCHOOL EXCURSIONS.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR. Sir,— May I ask the School Committee, through you, if they have applied for an early, fast, and special train ? Or will the poor children have to be imprisoned for four weary hours each way ? Bad for the little ones, but far worse for the parents and guardians, who have long since forgotten the novelty and charm of railing. Reaching their destination at about 3 p.m., they will just have time to have two sniffs and ahalf of 4he reviving sea-breeze when the unwelcome return whistle will ruthlessly upset all the little game! This is encouraging school excursions with a vengeance. Is it for this privilege the parents will have to pay to the Railway Department a large sum of money, enough to give the school a first-class treat and a grand lot of prizes ? Now, I think the excursion a good thing if the children and parents could be set down on the beach at 9 a.m., and leave for home at 4 or 5 p.m. Otherwise it is simply an expensive farce, and I hope the Committee will see it in this light. I am, etc., Parent.
