Apiti Notes.

I | From Our Own Correspondent] A meeting of the Directors of the Apiti Dairy Factory was held in Guy's Hall on Wednesday. Mr Nix, Chairman of Directors, presided. Mr Adam Cartwright's resignation as Secretary was accepted with regret, and Mr R. A. Miller was appointed iv his stead. The tender of Messrs Lowes and Jarvis, of the Oroua Sawmill, to supply timber was accepted, the delivery to take place within two months. Tenders have been called for sinking a well for the factory, and everything is being got as forward as possible, so that there will be no unnecessary delay when the time comes for building the factory, for which tenders will be called shortly. Mrs M. Peters, of Palmerston N., is arranging to purchase the corner section, opposite the Hotel, from Mr D. dirties, to build a store on. Stables have been erected in connection with the boardinghouse. There i.s good enquiry for town sections in Apiti lately, several having changed hands at satisfactory figures Messrs Lowes and Jarvis, of the Oroua sawmills, have got three months' orders on hand, aud mostly all for Apiti township. Mr Ben Le Prou has opened a blacksmith's shop in Apiti, which makes the second. Mr C. Y. Dalby, of tho Table Flut Butchery, has leased a piece of ground just outside the township and is erecting a slaughter yard there. He intends opening a butcher's shop in the township very soon. The party of four — Messrs Jas. Johnston, E. Wilhelm, J. Turner, and W. Walter — who went prospecting among the Ruahine ranges about ten days ago, returned well satisfied with their short stay, aud intend to call a meeting here on Tuesday next to lay their views before the settlers. It is intended to open a subscription-list, get enough money to pa 3' for about a mouth's provisions for [ them and a few extra tools that are wanted, when a further trial will be made, the prospectors generously giving their time free. A few of the specimens brought down have been sent to' the Government Geologist for analysis, and the return will be published on receipt.
