Hawera Sheep Fair.
SUBSTANTIAL RISE IN PRICES. Messrs Nolan, Tonks and Co.'s annual eheep fair was held on Friday, wb«n there was a large attendance of buyers. This fair is now recognised as the one which regulates the prices for the whole coast, and in consequence there were buyers from Wanganui, Rangitikei and elsewhere. Over 20,000 sheep were yarded. Bidding for all lines of good quality was extremely spirited, and nearly everything was sold at the hammer at excellent prices. One Hoe of superior 2 tooth ewes brought the splendid price of 7a 9d to 8s lid ; they were very fine eheep, and caused the keenest competition. The prices realised were as follows :— Woolly lambs, 3s to 4s lOd ; woolly cull lambs, la 7d to 2s 6d ; shorn lambs, 2s 6d to 3a ; shorn cull lambs, Is 3d to Is 6d ; 4 tooth wethere, 7s to 7s lOd ; 2 tooth wethers, 6s to 6s 6d : poor conditioned wethers, 3s lid to 5s 3d ; fat ewes, 6s to 7s ; 2-tooth ewes, 6s 3d to 6s 9d ; 2-tooth ewes, superior quality, 7s 9d to 8s lid ; 2-tooth, mixed sexes, 6s to 6s 6d ; cull ewes, 1b 8d to 2s 6d. The fair was in every respect a great success.
