A match was played on the Feilding ground on Saturday last between the g Colyton and Carnarvon Clubs, which , decided the championship of the Rangi- | j tikei-Manawatu Cricket Union for the season 1894-95. There is only one other j match to play off between teams in the j Union — namely, Palmerston v. Carnar- I von, on Saturday next — but as the latter ; / team was defeated on Saturday it will j not affect cup honors, which go to the i fl Colyton Club, who have only been defcated once this season — namely, by Q Birmingham. The game on Saturday , created some interest amongst cricket a enthusiasts, and the result was left in . doubt almost till the required number of v runs had been obtained by Colyton in their second innings, when they had c three wickets to fall. Carnarvon batted » first and put 60 runs together. Colyton q j following only made 50 runs, the small score being mainly due to the splendid , fielding of the Carnarvon team. In their second innings Carnarvon were not so . successful, the Entwisle Bros.' bowling proving effective. With 58 to win, Coly- rj ton again forced the bowling, and when Johnston and then C. Millen got set the Carnarvon men played a little wild at times, extras being added to the scores. . When the required number of runs had been obtained Colyton had three wick- * ets to fall, but the captain decided to -, close the innings. Mrs Lethbridge and Mrs Sorley with their usual kindness provided afternoon tea for the players. Following are the scores : — ~ Cabnabnon — Ist innings. -\ J. Hathaway, bW. Entwisle ... 2 c -J.
