KILLED IN A*GRAVEL PIT. (Per Press Association.) Carterton, This Day. Charles Knutson, a well-known and highly respected settler, was killed while working in a gravel pit. Wellington, Feb. 22. The Ruapehu took four boxes of gold Valued at £4100 shipped from Auckland by the National Bank, one box valued at : £1142 shipped by tbe Cassell Company from Wellington, and four boxes valued at £4550 shipped by the Shaw, Saville i Company. i Considerable difficulty has been experienced by Unions in registering under ' the Conciliation and Arbitration Act owing . to informalities in application. Christchurch, February 22 Tbe criminal sittings of the Supreme Court concluded to-day. Joseph Wilson was sentenced to five years for breaking and entering and James Doyle was acquitted for robbery from the person. At a meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council it was decided to abandon this year the match North v. South Island. Mr Montgomery, vi.H.R. for Ellesmere addressed his constituents last night. He spoke in support of the Government policy and received a vote of confidence. Auckland, February 22. It is understood it may be considered settled the head quarters of the Loan and Mercantile Company are to be removed to Wellington. Mr J. Beaumont, one of the Directors, is now in Auckland completing arrangements for this and other business connected with the Company.
