Tbis s the last of the intercolonial matches m which possession of the Sheffield shield depends. If the visitors win ;hey will carry off the trophy, but if New South Wales is successful Victoria md South Australia tie. Heavy rain lias soddened the wicket and showers fell during the period of play, which tendered the wicket easy and in favor of the local men, who batted first. Iredale, when well set and playing in first-class style, got out in a peculiar way. The ball struck him severely on the instep and rebounding just shook the bails off. Gregory and Donnan's partnership was characterised by some rapid scoring, though the latter was not in bis best form. Giffen proved very expensive when facing this batsman. Garrett played a dashing game ; hitting brilliantly all round the wicket.
