St. John's Harvest Festival.

o The harvest festival thanksgiving » service held in St. John's Anglican . Church last evening was attended by ' a large congregation. During the afteri noon about a dozen ladies of the congregation assembled at the church, and i with the abundance of greens, fruit, > flowers and vegetables which they had , at their disposal succeeded in decorating t the church very prettily. Around the . altar and in other prominent places > vegetables and fruit were piled up in quantities, while wheat, oats, and flowers and greenery were most tastefully arranged around the lectern, pulpit, and [ in the body of the church. The music for the occasion was bright and cheerful, and the anthem "Fear Not O Land" j was capitally rendered by a strong choir. The hymns sung were 382, 365 and 383, and the psalms 65, 144 and 150. • The Rev. Innes-Jones conducted the j k first portion of the service which was I , entoned, and the Rev. R. Young, of I Palmerston N., preached an excellent . and appropriate sermon, taking his text 1 from the Epistle of St. James, Ist chapr ter, 16th and 17th verses : "Do not Err my Brethren, every good Gift and every perfect Gift cometh from Above." An offertory was taken up in aid of the . choir fund. \ To-day the fruit and vegetables were k forwarded to the Palmerston North I Hospital.
