The following* are looked upon as likely winners : — Half Mile Bicycle, Pither, Christchurch ; Three Mile Walk, Creamer, Auckland ; 250 yds Flat, Jones, Auckland; Half -Mile Flat, Low, Dunedin, or Wood, Christchurch ; High Jump, Bailey, AVanganui; Five Mile Bicycle, Hayward, Christchurch ; 120 yds Hurdles, Moir, Christchurch ; Mile Flat, Farquhar, iiuckland ; Putting the Weight, Kurepo, Hawke's Bay; Ten Mile Bicycle, Hayward, Christchurch ; Pole Jump, Kingsley, Wanganui. At a meeting of Secretaries of Clubs to-day, the next Australian Championship Athletic meeting was discussed, and it was suggested tbat it be held in Christchurch, and that tbe next New Zealaud Championship meeting be held in Timaru about the same time. Other matters were dealt with of no public interest. This Day. The weather is very fine and bright, with slight northerly wind. The track is in splendid condition, and all arrangements appear to be perfect. The opening events are three, heats for the 200 yds championship, and which is set down for 2 p.m. These will be followed by the half-mile bicycle championship, which is regarded as open. Hayward, a Christchurch cyclist, is reported to be slightly indisposed this morning, and this may have an effect of not seeing his true form in the cycling events to-day. Angell, Wellington's long distance runner is suffering from & strained leg, but he wi 1 compete in the one and three-mile races. '. ■ '*•• Later, CX Holder, of "Wanganui, won theiirst heat of the 250 yds easilyin 27sec ; Jones, Auckland, second! heat, 27 2-7 sec; Broad (Christchurch) and Fraser (Na!?ies) tiefl for third heat, 27 2-ssec.
