The Reciprocal Treaty.
(Per Press Association). Melbourne, February 20. At a meeting of the Cabinet, the Premier brought under notice the protest made hy the Board of Viticulture against the reciprocal , treaty arranged by the Premier of South Australia and the Colonial Treasurer of New Zetland. The protest urged such a treaty would be the deathblow to the wine trade with New Zealand, and would retard federation and ; intercolonial freetrade. ..,,.. .The Cabinet decided to communicate with the 1 Premiers of South Australia and Hew Zealand, asking them not 2 to take steps to ratify treaty on the ground that it would prove a hindrance to Federation, and requesting them to hold the arrangement in abeyance for a few months till it eoulibe seen if it was possible to put the Federation scheme; adopted at the Pre* miers' Conference into operation.
