FIJIANS v. HAWKES BAY.
(Per Press Association.) Napier, February 19. The Fijian cricket match commenced to-day. The weather was fearfully hot, and this perhaps favored the visitors; at any rate, they make an exhibition of Hawkes Bay. The wicket was very fast and true, the visitors pronouncing it the best they have played on. The Fijians went to the wickets first, and thougb most of them made a poor stand, Collins carried his bat right through the innings, scoring 128 out of a total of 187. The only others who reached double figures were — Coldwell 15, Scott 11, Groom 11. Mills and Hughes were the most successful with the ball. Hawkes Bay only put together 92, of which Hill contributed 27, Cato 25, and Ludbroof 23. These were in first, and after they left the rest of the team simply collapsed. Hawkes Bay will continue on to-morrow.
