BOROUGH AFFAIRS.

TO THE KDITHTI OF THE STAK. Sir, — 1 was pleased to see your leader in Saturday's issue in reference to Borough matters, which I think should be backed up by every ratepayer until the Council is compelled to take action. No doubt the straightened financial position of the Borough has kej)t the Council troin doing much in the past, but we must take some dciinito action before long. If the Council in the past had been a little more energetic we should not be so cramped for reserves as we are, but it is no use crying over spilt milk. We must iiopcovo the preseut, and hope for the future. The offer of the Corporation for a site of Municipal Buildings and Water Reserve was conditional. Arc we to let these offers slip through our fingers as in the past? I think it would be well for the Council to take some action at once in reference to the Municipal Buildings, especially when such favorable conditions were offered by the Corporation, and why do not the Council have levels taken and see whether the water reserve of twenty acres is of any service which the Corporation have offered conditionally ? lam convinced if something is not done, and that soon, the Corporation will say we are off the bargain. Ido not think it necessary to adduce arguments to prove that a water supply is necessary. Everybody is convinced of this, and money could nevei: be got so cheap as now. I hope you will not cease to agitate through j'our valuable paper until the Council are compelled to take action. Bye-the-bye, what has become of the report of the Kiwitea Bridge Commission ? 1 am, etc., Cornubia. Feilding, February 19th, 1895.
