Prosecutions Under the Shop Act.

(Per Press Association.) Wellington, This Day. Twenty Chinamen and two Europeans are being prosecuted to-day for not closing on Wednesday last. In the case of the latter the point was whether the wife was an assistant or not, and the S.M. reserved judgment. The Chinamen mostly had their shutters up but tbe front door open which, it was contended, was necessary for ventilation and to give access to the premises. The Inspector deposed he saw sales effected in some cases. The Chinamen were each fined £1 and Court costs.
