Colonial Produce at Home.
The Department of Agriculture received yesterday a copy of Messrs W. "Wediel and Co.'s weekly market report (dated London, December 28) on colonial dairy produce- This report says inter : a li a : _" As week by week passes there is a growing experience that butters which have lam long in store or are otherwise " off " flavour will be most difficult to sell at such prices as will avoid serious loss. There can be no two op nions that those colonial factories which make inferior butters will be " hard hit " this winter. The factories which make choicest grades will come best out of the calamity, but even they will severely feel the effects of this season of adnormally low prices * * * The knowledge of the amount of colonial butter arrived, or to arrive, gives the Danes and other European butter exporters the advantage of regulating their supply to meet the demand which their Australasian competitors can never enjoy. Colonial butter must take its chance when it arrives as to a good or bad market ; but it would be better if the quantity sent by each ship from the colonies could be more evenly regnlated. * * * There will be no thing doing in cheese until the com inencrinentof the New Year. The week's quotations for New Zealand butter and cheese are as follow: -Butter— Choicest factory, 96s to If 2s; best factory, 90s to 945; secondary, 70? to 88s- Cheese, 46s to 50e."- Times j
