Wellington Chamber of Commerce.

«. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, February 14. The annual report of the Council of the^ Chamber of Commerce refers with satisfaction to the progress of work on the central route of the North Island Main Trunk Railway, and applauds the steps taken by the Government to acquire the Wellington-Manawatu Railway. The tariff revision report says :— The composition of the Royal Commission now sitting gives an impression that the mercantile community has more to fear than to hope from the results of its deliberation. The long combined suspense and uncertainty affecting this question cannot but be prejudicial to trade, and no doubt one of the minor influences con? tributing to the want of confidence which prevails in the colony.
