ATHLETIC MATTERS.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR. Sir, —We were informed through the columns of your paper, some time ago, that the Sports Committee were forming themselves into an Athletic Committee. My object in writing is to enquire what steps have been taken in the matter. There are many young fellows in Feilding who have had some experience in athletics (indoor), and one or two who could take charge of a class for the time being. That Feilding is in want of an institution o£ some kind is certain, and many a young fellow would be only too glad to subscribe had he the opportunity of indulging in gymnastic exercises, knowing it to be the means of strengthening his constitution and making him a better member of society generally. We have also been informed that a drill-shed is to be erected for the use of the Volunteers, and that it is intended to form a club in connection with the same, but this has been talked of so much that in the minds of the public it is fast becoming a " forlorn hope." I trust this letter will be the means of gaining a little information and satisfying to a certain extent the enquiries of many. Thanking you in anticipation for inserting this in your paper, I am, etc., Athlete.
