THE LIBERATOR SCANDALS. PROTECTION IN FRANCE. (PEB PHEBS ASSOCIATION.} London, February 12. Dibley, Brock, Major, Wright, and F. M. Cold'wells (M.P. for Lambeth), all directors, and Theobald, auditor, are charged with defrauding the Liberator companies, chiefly the Lands Allotment Company. It is alleged Bgainst them that since 1889 they knew that the companies were insolvent., and prevented en quiry by issuing false balance-sheets ; that they connived at dummy purchases b} Newman, surveyor, at inflated values ; and that they issued nominal cheques and divided fictitious profits. The Gothic is being fitted up to carry 300 tons of chilled beef. Paris, February 13. Owing to the outcry, the Frenoh Government has cancelled the order calling for the foreign tenders for the supply of tinned meats for the army and navy, and will confine the supply to French firms. Ottawa, February 13. The Canadian Government pioposes that a joint commission, consisting of delegates from Canada, Great Britain and Australia, should meet in London to discuss the Pacific cable question Washington, February 13. The free gold balance in the Treasury amounts to 41,000,000 dollars, which is a record sum. Berltx, February 13. A monument has been erected at Gottingen in honor of Prince Bismarck. At the unveiling ceremony the Emperor inscribed the words, "To the great Chancellor."
