In many cities in the States people are in danger of starvation owing to cessation of train services. The damage to the fruit and vegetable crops in Florida is estimated at two millions sterling. Washington, February 10. A blizzard has swept the whole of the Eastern States which has been unequalled in severity since 1888. In the whole of these States the thermometer was below zero, in some instances as low as 34 degrees. The velocity of the wind was 72 miles an hour. The railways were blocked by drifting snow, and communication was interrupted in all directions. Sandy Hook was partially icebound. London, February 11. ( In some parts of Scotland the thermometer has registered 13 degrees below zero. The Thames docks rre partially frozen, and in consequence the unloading of Australian meat is stopped.
