Banking Averages.
(Per Press Association). Sydney, February 8. The Syduey Morning Herald, commenting on' the last quarterly banking averages, says they show that the tendency in New Zealand, as well as other colonies, is in the direction of smaller expenditure on deposits and larger use of proprietary funds. The movemept js in a desirable direction. The accumulation 'ot reserves, however,' must tend to a reduction of the rate of profits, this is the world-wide feature of banking at present, and must pontinue till enters pirisp yeyiysg.
